What Linode is now
Linode is a developer cloud owned by Akamai and sold as Akamai Cloud. The old linode.com/pricing page now redirects to akamai.com/cloud/pricing. It offers shared, dedicated and high-memory CPU instances and suits developers who want a straightforward VPS cloud backed by Akamai's network. It is not a beginner host with a site builder.
The $100 credit
Akamai's pricing page advertises US$100 in credits for new accounts through a separate promotion page. The FAQ says credit applies automatically and your card is charged only after the credit is used up or the promotional window expires. We did not see the window length on the pricing page, so read it on the promo page before you spin things up.
What we could verify on pricing
The page lists only one concrete rate: a 1 GB VM at $0.0075 an hour, about $0.18 over 24 hours, and it does not say which plan type that is. The shared CPU monthly table is on a linked sub-page we could not load. Confirm monthly caps and plan specs on the CPU pricing page.
Who should skip it
Anyone who wants cPanel, mailboxes and a site builder bundled in. Low-budget buyers chasing the most RAM per dollar. Black Friday waiters: we found no Linode sale.
Decision rule: claim the $100 credit, benchmark your real workload against Akamai's network, set a billing alert, and delete test instances before the credit window closes.
