What is Affinity (by Canva)?

Affinity is a creative app owned by Canva. Since 30 October 2025 it has been free. That makes the Black Friday question simple: there is nothing to discount. You download the app and activate it with a free Canva account.

The catch is AI. Affinity's AI features require a paid Canva plan. So if you see an "Affinity deal" this November, it is really a Canva Pro offer. Check whether you actually need those AI tools before paying for Canva just to use them inside Affinity.

Who should use it

Affinity suits freelancers, students and small studios who want desktop design software without a monthly bill. It is a strong reason to drop a paid design subscription if you only use the core editing tools.

It is not ideal if your team depends on a specific industry file workflow tied to another vendor, or if a client requires you to deliver in that vendor's native formats. Test your real files first.

One more thing to watch: coupon sites still list old Affinity discounts from before the switch to free. Ignore them. Paying for an old licence key now makes no sense when the current app costs nothing.

Canva usually runs its own Black Friday offer on Pro, so if you want the AI features, that sale is the one to watch.
