What is Kaspersky?

Can you buy Kaspersky in the US?

No. The US Commerce Department banned sales of Kaspersky antivirus to new US customers from 20 July 2024. Kaspersky was also barred from distributing software or updates to US customers or to any US person's system from 29 September 2024. The company said it was closing its US business. If you are in the United States, there is no legitimate Black Friday deal or promo code to find.

Why the ban happened

The Commerce Department cited the Russian government's offensive cyber capabilities and its capacity to influence or direct Kaspersky's operations. Kaspersky disputed this, saying the decision rested on geopolitical conditions and theoretical concerns rather than a full review of its products. You do not have to take a side to see the practical result: no updates means degrading protection for anyone still using it in the US.

If you already own it

The rule did not bar current customers from continuing to use existing Kaspersky software. But after the update cutoff the protection degrades, because an antivirus without fresh signatures slowly stops catching new threats. Plan to move to another product rather than ride it out.

Coupon sites and gray-market keys

Coupon pages may still list Kaspersky codes. A code that works on a non-US store does not change the ban, and a key from a gray-market reseller may stop activating or leave you without support. We do not recommend that route.

Outside the US

The ban is a US rule. We did not research Kaspersky's availability or pricing in other countries, and we found no sourced offer, so none is listed here.

What to do instead

Pick a supported alternative: Bitdefender, Norton, ESET or Malwarebytes all run regular sales. Decision rule: if you are a US buyer, treat Kaspersky as unavailable and compare those four on renewal price, not the first-year sticker.
